Let's be real...life can be toxic! Whether it's political issues, financial burdens, an unhealthy relationship, or a stressful job, many aspects of our lives can cause psychological toxicity. We've all heard of idioms like, "Life's too short" or "Live life to the fullest" and even "YOLO", so maybe it's time we take action and adopt theses phrases into our personal lives.

I'm not saying to delete your social media accounts or to quit your job, but I'm asking that you take the time to evaluate your life completely. Be mindful of the things that you look forward to and the things you dread. Think of the people in your life that you absolutely cannot live your life without and also those that might be making your life toxic. If you are in a job that is draining you physically and emotionally, ask yourself if it's truly worth the struggle? Whatever the case may be, it might just be that the struggle is too real and that you might need a change of scenery.

I'm sure that to some degree, many of you are aware of the fact that in order to take care of others or to make others happy, we first have to be able to take care of ourselves and to be happy with ourselves. I am not saying that I have it all figured out, but what I've learned over the years is that acceptance is a huge factor in my happiness. I've accepted the things that I cannot change or that are outside of my control and I've learned to make the best of the situation by living in the moment. I focused on the things that I could change and that I could control, which in the end resulted in happiness. I found that self-care was truly life changing for me. My recipe for self-care included making time to workout regularly, eating right, practicing mindfulness, and most importantly spending quality time with those that truly matter most. Your idea of self-care might be different than mine, however, my hope is that you find what truly makes you feel good about yourself physically and psychologically. See my Self-care Hacks blog post for more information.

Change is difficult! No matter how big or how small the change may be, it's difficult because it's the "unknown"so it increases our anxiety levels. Not only that, it requires a lot of commitment and motivation. So, when it comes to making changes, it's important to have a good game-plan and support system to keep you accountable. You need to surround yourself with positive people that empower you and support you, while you work on improving your life.

I hope that you take some steps towards detoxifying your life. I'd love to hear about your experience!

Stay healthy!
