How many times have you started a workout regimen and then failed to stay committed to it? The reality is that we’ve all been there! Regardless of what the reason(s) may have been, my hope is to help you get refocused so that you could move forward in order for you to be successful in your fitness goals. No matter what your fitness goals may be, my COR Method can help you achieve your goals by using these 3 strategies: consistency, options, and recovery.
First and foremost, consistency is key! Consistency is going to look a little different to each one of us because we all have different personalities and needs. Starting a new workout program could get very overwhelming so it’s important that you’re prepared before you begin. Take a moment to really think about what it is that you need in your life in order for you to be held accountable so that you could stay consistent. Is it joining a gym, finding a gym buddy, keeping a planner or schedule, joining an online fitness group (check out my new Mind-Body-Life group on Facebook), or maybe it’s hiring a personal trainer or a fitness professional? Whatever it is, make sure that it’s something that will actually help you so that you could stay committed to your fitness goals.
Having different options in your workout routine is very important in helping you stay accountable and also with getting the fitness results that you’re working for. Once again, this will look different for you than it does for me because fitness goals are supposed to be individualized. That’s right, there isn’t just “one plan” that works for everyone even though many fitness programs sell that promise. The reality is that we’re all different so a cookie cutter program that works for me may not necessarily work for you. We have different lifestyles and our bodies are complicated so we need to have different options to achieve our fitness goals. For example, my workout plan/routine is very different when I am at home compared to when I am traveling so it’s important for me to plan ahead and to have different options available so that I don’t get off track. When I’m traveling, I like to pack fitness bands just in case there isn’t a gym available so I could get in my strength training. I also brainstorm potential running/hiking paths and even check out any classes available through the Class Pass App. Regardless of what your lifestyle entails, it’s important that you have different options in case something comes up and you can’t stick to your workout plan. In addition, you also can’t follow the same workout routine weeks on end. You have to keep your body guessing by switching up workouts regularly or else you’ll reach a plateau and you won’t get the results that you’re working for. Trust me, I’ve been there and it sucks when you grind it out in the gym 15 hours per week and you’re not getting the results that you’re working for. If this is your current situation, please reach out and don’t get discouraged. I will be more than happy to give you some advice and offer you some different options to incorporate into your workout routine so that you don’t reach a plateau and get burnt out.
Most importantly, it’s important to allow your body to recover (something else I learned the hard way). You can see more about this on my “Overtraining is NOT a myth!” blog post. Recovery is crucial when it comes to seeing fitness results! That’s because you’re tearing your muscles when you’re working out and during recovery is when your muscles build and repair. If you’re not allowing your body to rest, then this process isn’t going to physiologically happen. Not only that, if you’re not feeding your body proper nutrients after a workout, then you’re not maximizing your workout. It’s important to feed your body protein, carbs, etc. so that your muscles could absorb the nutrients in the recovery process. Not only that, but you could potentially injure yourself if you’re not allowing your body to properly recover. So, take rest days, allow your body to recover, and make sure that you’re feeding your body proper nutrients so that you could get the results that you’re working for.
Best of luck! If you’d like more information or if you have any questions please feel free to reach out!
