The Power of Yoga

This past weekend is one that I will always remember! The Connection Coalition (formerly known as Yoga Gangsters) training, will forever have a very special place in my heart. The Connection Coalition training is a trauma informed yoga training that provides knowledge to individuals that want to teach outreach yoga in the community. The training prepares individuals to appropriately help youth gain empowerment, learn self respect, as well as self awareness and control in order to help them heal their trauma. The Connection Coalition partners with various youth organizations by providing knowledge on tools that could help calm the nervous system through the practice of yoga, mindfulness, and meditation.

I've been teaching yoga to the youth and young adults that belong to the Transition to Adulthood program that I work for a year now. Over the past year, I've personally seen so much growth in the individuals that attend the yoga classes both physically and psychologically. When I found out that I had the opportunity to attend the Connection Coalition training I was so excited because I knew that I would be able to connect with the youth and young adults on an even deeper level since I would have the skill set to make an even greater impact in their lives.

Attending the Connection Coalition training was such an incredible experience! I am forever grateful for the experience and for being able to completely immerse myself in something that is so meaningful and so purposeful. Not only did I learn about the amazing work of the Connection Coalition, but I also learned some valuable things about myself and I also had the opportunity to connect with other individuals (including one of my Alpha Phi sorority sisters) that also want to make a positive impact in the community with the power of yoga.

For those of you that don't know, yoga has played a huge role in helping me become stronger psychologically. I've personally learned the importance of self-love, balance, and acceptance throughout my yoga practice. I am so honored to be able to share my love for yoga by teaching youth and young adults about the benefits of practicing yoga on the mind and the body.
